These artists tell the stories of The Dreamtime, of Aboriginal culture and their ancestors’ life experiences, which can be seen as paintings on canvas, linen, rock, stone, bark and wood. |

FIGHTING BOOMERANGS / RETURNING BOOMERANGS The Boomerang is an all-purpose tool and weapon which is always within reach of Aboriginal people. The Fighting Boomerangs or Club Boomerangs are thrown to hurt their target and not return. When used in close contact or thrown up to 100 metres, they are capable of inflicting serious injury, sometimes even death. Aboriginal people use the Returning Boomerang to hunt birds and this is thrown above a flock of ducks to simulate a hawk. This causes the birds to fly low to avoid the threat, thus bringing them within the range of hunters’ clubs or tangling themselves in nets stretched across waterways. In pairs, they can be used as Clapsticks. The Fighting Boomerangs are 68cm long and the Returning Boomerangs are 53cm long. |

DECORATIVE DOT BOOMERANGS The dot paintings on these boomerangs are created by a group of Aboriginal Australian artists who guarantee that each work is an authentic Aboriginal piece, created, painted and signed by the artist. Every dot painting tells a story or reveals a meaning. Every line or group of dots, each colour and texture is significant to the overall story of the lives, both past and present, of the Aboriginal people of central Queensland. |
